General Overview

At Terra Firma Farm we believe in natural sustainable farming as well as educational farming.  We have designed our educational programs to correlate closely with the farm and with the changing seasons.  Every program offers hands-on experiences to help increase the impact of the class.  We utilize the farms land and animals to promote respect for the Earth and our natural resources.  Using the farm as teacher we help build a solid foundation for education.

All programs place special emphasis on fostering cooperation skills, making real farm experiences available to children, and on giving young people the opportunity to learn by doing things themselves.  Our programs help children develop creativity and ingenuity while making a point of teaching children to see the value and rewards of real farm work in a nurturing and supportive environment.

Terra Firma Farm School Programs offer field trip opportunities for kindergarten through fifth grade classes, each designed to complement requirements of the Connecticut Core Science Curriculum.  While at the farm the students will be involved in real farm experiences; interacting with the animals; planting seeds; stirring compost and much, much more.  They will also play games that will demonstrate scientific concepts such as pollination, conservation, plant growth, and animal life cycles.
